| You're doing it wrong, Gertie. |
So, I didn't write that novel. Big surprise! This isn't some sort of pity party, I just think I was being a tad bit ambitious. I'd like to try again in November but I'm not sure if I have the potential to really achieve something so intimidating.
Anywho.. here's some stuff I did.
 |
| Catnip Banana! |
I got a cat! Her prior owner abandoned her outside a vet clinic here in Halifax. They estimate her age at around 12 years (which is about 64 years old in human years - which is fun). She's quite fat, very lazy and extremely cuddly. I've been charged with the task of helping her lose weight but despite being on a very restrictive diet, it's hard for her to drop pounds when she sleeps all day. Oh, and her name is Gertrude (or Gertie for short).

| Gourmet Burgers from Relish. |
There's a new gourmet burger
shop in town. It's a bit pricey ($17 for burger, fries and pop) but it's very tasty. Might be a monthly place I'll try to check out. Also, there method of greeting you when you open the door is kind of annoying.. well, really annoying. Screaming your name out when your order is ready is also pretty terrible.
Attended The
Stanfields CD release party for their new album,
Death & Taxes. The album is easily one of the best I've heard in 2012. Every single song is ridiculously catchy and fun to sing along too. This band is criminally underrated and should really be Atlantic Canada's Dropkick Murphy's.
 |
| Some of the boys in The Stanfields! |
I also went to a Kathleen Edwards concert two weeks ago tomorrow. I've been a fan of her stuff for the past few years and wanted to finally catch a show live. She played most of what I wanted to hear with the exception of two songs (
Buffalo &
I Make The Dough, You Get The Glory), so I really can't complain. I tried to snap a few pictures but I was so far away, they all looked like crap.
 |
| "I'm moving to America.. it's an empty threat." |
Finally on the concert front, we checked out
Carmen Townsend at a fundraiser show for CKDU radio down at The Garrison Brewery. While the audience was lacking, she still put on an excellent show for those in attendance. Despite battling broken strings and dropping guitars, Carmen rocked our socks off! This caused me to basically go home and finally buy her album, which is something I think everyone should do.
 |
| Cannonball Chocolate Soda! |
It should also be worth noting that I had chocolate pop (or soda.. whatever). I've often thought that this should exist and finally finding it was pretty awesome. It tasted great and as one person had said, "it would make an
excellent float". You can get it at
The Garrison Brewery.
She also had a great supporting act in
Adam Mowery. I haven't seen many concerts that featured a guitarist/vocalist with a flutist. The combo was pretty awesome and the songs were very catchy. I'd definitely go see him again at the drop of a hat.
 |
| Carmen! |
Finally, I should mention that Star Wars Monopoly is the greatest. We've been playing it for the last few weeks and while I have yet to win, it's a good time. I really want the Nintendo edition though, I think it would be pretty fun. Well, it would be essentially the same but using Nintendo themed characters would be pretty great.
 |
| Death Row. |
Hopefully I can update this more often than every few months. I have a busy October coming up so I should have a lot more to post.
