I'm quickly finding out that it's a lot easier to say you have a great idea or plot outline for your novel than it is to actually write it. While I haven't begun (I'm assuming that's against the rules for Camp NaNoWriMo), outlining is proving difficult.
The big reason is probably due to the fact that I have no concept of how large a 50,000 word novel is. I have a decent idea of what I want to happen but I'm not sure how to space it out or if I even have enough ideas to let the work run its course? What if I fall almost ten thousand words short?
I'm sure I'm not the first person to have these pre-game jitters.
We'll see what happens when August hits. I have every intention of completing this so I'm sure I just have to take it as it comes.
Just save your best shit until after you hit 40k. You'll do fine. Sins of the Fathers is about 75k, to give you an idea.
ReplyDeleteThat's not so bad, really. I think because I haven't done this, I imagined some massive tome. I have a pretty solid opening scene in mind so that's a good start.
ReplyDeleteAs long as you keep plowing forward, you'll do fine.
