Started reading "The Chris Farley Show" the other day. Just about near the 100 page mark. The book is surprisingly positive so far, Farley comes across as quite possibly one of the most genuine and caring people I've ever read about, which I guess will make the heavy drug use stories that much more awful. Chevy Chase comes off as a jerk but its rare to find anyone who says anything good about the guy in the first place.
Bought the new Joel Plaskett album Tuesday, totally addicted to it. Was hoping for something excellent as I was a huge fan of "La De Da" but not so much with "Ashtray Rock". Makes me want to take the trip to Edmonton to see him play in a church hall somewhere downtown, probably not going to happen with the trip back to Cape Breton looming in two weeks.
Ash wants to buy tickets to go see the NYC Broadway show, "The Lion King" that is touring across North America. It lands in Edmonton roughly around the time of our one year anniversary so it's probably a probability that we'll be going. Should be a good time. I really have no idea what to expect. I think Dane Cook is going to Edmonton roughly around this time too, might go see him.
Watched "Quantum of Solace" this afternoon as well. Not exactly as good as Casino Royale but that was a tough act to follow anyway so I kinda can't blame it for that one. I guess I was expecting..more. Not sure what the "more" is that I'm talking about but it didn't quite do it for me. Maybe a repeat viewing is in order.

Two Movies!
Ash was sick and stayed home from work today. I gave her that sickness, so we hung around and I made her breakfast. I also baked some cookies while she made supper, then we watched movies.
I went out and rented three DVDs. Two were actual movies and one was a TV special. The movies in question were "Milk" and "Rachel Getting Married". The special, "The Roast of Bob Saget". Didn't get a chance to watch the special, well, I suppose I have a chance right now but I think I'm DVD'd out for the day.
Milk was a quality film, first Sean Penn movie I've ever seen. I was never really a fan of the man, he always came off as arrogant in interviews and seemed like a bit of a douchebag. I can't even explain why. However, I might have been wrong. I can certainly see why he recieved the Academy Award for his portrayal as Harvey Milk. It ended up being a great and powerful movie.
Rachel Getting Married was a surprise. I listen to the Filmspotting podcast quite a bit (best movie related podcast going today) and I remember they were very high on this movie. So, I picked it up. Great choice. Ash and I both liked it. Hathaway was great and derserved the nomination this year, without a doubt. It was a breath of fresh air after that awful, awful Get Smart movie that she was in.
So, yeah..that's about it.

SModcast.
Kevin Smith literally seems to make me like anything.
Over the past few weeks I've been getting caught up on all the SModcasts I've been missing. For anyone who doesn't know, SModcast is a weekly "podcast" supplied by filmmaker Kevin Smith and his producer Scott Mosier. Whenever Scott isn't around, Smith invites a friend to replace him (Malcom Ingrahm, Jason Mewes, Walt Flanagan) and to co-host the show. If you're a fan of the "Evening with Kevin Smith" series, you'd love this as it's along the same lines. Granted, we don't get to ask Smith anything but it's still basically Smith standing around (or sitting, I don't know) and talking about random stuff.
Ash's father bought me the CBC mini-series, "Hockey: A People's History" for Christmas this year. I received so many great DVDs this holiday season and have purchased many since that this box set was sort of placed on the back burner. Well, the first SModcast that I listen to has Smith and Mosier talking about hockey, particularly Wayne Gretzky, for about two hours! During this chat, they talk about the box set in question. Well, that was enough. I literally went home this evening and popped in the first episode. It almost seems like I would or will do anything that man says. It's really quite sad.
I watched the first episode and it's actually quite great. Insane fact about hockey: In the 1904 winter season, 4 players DIED while playing hockey. DIED. Can you imagine? It wasn't freak accidents, like medical conditions and what not. They actually died from the violence contained in the game. That's incredible.
So, I felt I needed to share this.

Martin Gerber?
I still can't believe the deals the Toronto Maple Leafs made yesterday during the NHL trade deadline. They signed two goalies, one of which is injured for the rest of the season and the other a former Ottawa Senator recently exiled to the AHL. They also signed several relatively unknowns and dumped loyal team member Nik Antropov and a great forward in Dominic Moore. Meh. Nothing fantastic if you ask me.
Tonight, Martin Gerber made 37 friggin' saves and nearly shut out the Washington Capitals. Sure, you can say that The Caps were without Ovechkin..you can say that The Caps are currently on a dreadfully home skid but the fact is that Gerber surprised everyone. I'm not hoping for a last minute playoff push as I'm pretty sure they have almost no chance of making it anyway but I'm still pleasently surprised.
Edmonton is soon. I can't wait to get my hands on some Daredevil graphic novels, I think its time I read his stuff. Looking forward to Kevin Smith's "Guardian Devil" series. Hell, I'd read/watch anything Kevin Smith puts out. So, that's not surprising at all.
Word.
